About us
We pride ourselves on being no ordinary bike shop.
Established in April 2001. Oxford Cycle Workshop has always been a bike shop keen to explore new ways of serving our community. Eight years on, we have successfully converted to a worker owned co-operative and refined the products and services we offer to you as a customer.
In addition to products and services we're also keen bike recyclers, offering skills to the community through the recycling process. To support this work we're always looking for people interested in donating a bike. We have also supported a range of cycling events in Oxford for many years now.
We are also a Cycle Scheme affiliated shop, supporting a scheme that makes tax free bicycles available to you through your employer.
Bike recycling
We recycle roughly 1000 of Oxford's bicycles destined for landfill every year.
Bike recycling has allowed us to offer our customers an affordable, reliable and environmentally conscious alternative to the growing number of cheap bikes shipped in from the far east. As explored on a recent edition of Watchdog, cheap new bikes can often be a false economy.
Offering skills through recycling
Through our partnership with Oxford Cycle Workshop Training we offer training and life skills to disadvantaged young people through the process of bike refurbishment. This means at the end we are able to refurbish the bikes donated to us by the people of Oxford to a really high standard. Reselling them at an affordable price with a 3 month warranty.
Donate a bike
To donate an unwanted bike you can either drop it off at our shop on Magdalen Road, our training centre on Glanville Road or to our University Club mobile mechanic on Wednesdays on Mansfield Road. Alternatively we have a cage at Oxford's Redbridge Recycling Centre and Stamford in the Vale's recycling centre to collect bikes you are looking to donate.
Supporting Oxford's cycling events
In Oxford you don't have to think of yourself as a cyclist to love riding your bike.
From regular Alleycat events through to Bike Polo and an annual Cycle Festival. For many years now Oxford Cycle Workshop has actively supported bringing all shapes and sizes of Oxford cyclist together to mess around on bikes.
